We fixed the problem!! The problem with my laptop was not enough physical memory. As stated in the first post the laptop was shipped with 256Mb of RAM. In my constant use of spreadsheets and other Office, Excel, Word etc., I had exhausted the RAM! We, just today, increased the RAM to 1Gb which is the maximum my motherboard can handle. I hope other people read these postings. The solution may be as simple as increasing the RAM. Not only did my BSOD disappear the OS system runs incredibly faster. What was taking 30 to 40 minutes to boot up now takes only very short minutes; 1 or 2 to be exact!!
I appreciate the quick response from you; however, your first response was I think more directed towards people with limited or no knowledge of computer operating systems. I paid very close attention to the BSOD read-out. The physical memory was always dumped to the hard drive. Hmmm, curious! I did another search of the system and noticed that I had somewhere between 5 and 50 Mb of RAM available, when system requires a minimum of 64 mb of RAM! Needless to say it was a no-brainer!!
I did have help with this solution. A very good friend of mine and I were talking about my BSOD problem. The suggestion was made to change virus scan software. I did. And after running the new virus scan in Safe Mode, two Trojans were found among other non-threatening problems. As I said in previous posts there are kids involved here.
So, for all other readers of this post, use your common-sense approach to Windows problems. The answer may be right in front of you on the monitor. Not all of them but some of them
